Privacy Policy
Effective date: 20 October 2026
This privacy policy explains how Discover Grand Forks ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you visit discovergrandforks.ca (the "site"), contact us or sign up for our newsletter. It also explains the choices and rights you have.
1. Who we are
The site is operated by Discover Grand Forks, 524 Central Ave, Grand Forks, BC V0H 1H0, Canada. You can reach us about anything in this policy at info@boundarychamber.com or by phone at (250) 442-2211.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact form: your name, email address, phone number (optional) and the message you write.
- Newsletter sign-up: your name and email address.
- Email and phone: anything you choose to include when you write to or call us directly.
Information collected automatically
- Technical information: like most websites, our hosting providers receive your IP address, browser and device type, and the pages you request, in order to deliver the site and keep it secure. When you submit a form, your IP address is stored with the submission to help prevent spam and abuse.
- Approximate location: we use your country and, in Canada and the United States, your province or state, worked out from your IP address by our host, to apply the privacy rules of your region (for example, to ask for consent before setting cookies in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland or Quebec). We do not determine your precise location.
- Cookies and similar technologies: small files and browser storage that help the site work, remember your choices, measure how the site is used and measure our advertising. Which ones are used, and whether we ask first, depends on your region and your choices. See our Cookie Policy for the full list.
- Your cookie choice: when you accept or reject cookies, we keep a record of that choice (a random identifier, the date and time, the choice made, your country or province and the policy version) so we can show that consent was given. This record does not contain your IP address or name.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information, and we ask that you do not include it in messages to us.
3. How we use your information
- To reply to your questions and requests.
- To send you our newsletter, if you asked for it. Every newsletter includes a way to unsubscribe.
- To operate, maintain and secure the site, and to prevent spam, fraud and abuse.
- To understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it (analytics), where you have allowed this or where the law permits it without consent.
- To measure the results of our advertising and promote Grand Forks to people who may be interested in visiting, where you have allowed this or where the law permits it without consent.
- To comply with the law and protect our rights.
We only use your information for the purposes described here, or for purposes you would reasonably expect. If we want to use it for a new purpose, we will ask for your consent first where the law requires it.
4. Consent and legal bases
In Canada we rely on your consent, which may be express (for example, when you sign up for the newsletter) or implied (for example, when you send us a message and expect a reply), as permitted by the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act. For visitors in Quebec, we follow the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector as amended by Law 25, and ask for express consent before setting non-essential cookies.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we process your information on the basis of your consent (newsletter, non-essential cookies), to respond to a request you made, or for our legitimate interests in running and securing the site, which we balance against your rights.
You can withdraw your consent at any time: unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any issue, change your cookie choices through Cookie settings (also linked in the footer of every page), or contact us. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
5. Cookies, analytics and advertising
We use Google Tag Manager to manage the tools on the site, Google Analytics to understand how the site is used and Google advertising tools to measure our campaigns. Embedded content such as maps (Google Maps) and videos (YouTube, Vimeo) may also set cookies once you allow them. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Quebec, these tools only run after you accept them. Elsewhere they run by default and you can switch them off at any time through Cookie settings.
We honour the Global Privacy Control signal from your browser where the law requires it. Our Cookie Policy lists every cookie, what it does and how long it lasts.
6. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site and communicate with you, under contracts that require them to protect it and use it only for the services they provide to us:
- Website hosting and delivery: Vercel (the public website), Kinsta (our content management system, where form submissions are stored), Supabase (our content database) and Cloudflare (security and performance).
- Google: Tag Manager, Analytics and advertising tools (see section 5), reCAPTCHA (to protect our forms from spam) and Maps.
- Video platforms: YouTube and Vimeo, when you choose to play an embedded video.
- Email: the email service we use to deliver messages from our forms, and an email marketing service if we use one to send the newsletter.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to respond to lawful requests from authorities, or to protect the safety, rights or property of our visitors, ourselves or others.
7. Where your information is stored
Some of our service providers store or process information outside British Columbia and Canada, including in the United States. While it is there, it is subject to the laws of that country, and authorities there may be able to access it. We choose providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to Canadian law and, for visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, that rely on recognised safeguards for international transfers.
8. How long we keep it
- Messages from the contact form: as long as needed to respond and follow up on your request.
- Newsletter sign-ups: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.
- Records of your cookie choice: two years. The choice itself is remembered in your browser for six months, after which we ask again.
- Analytics data: according to the retention settings of our analytics provider, after which it is deleted or anonymised.
9. How we protect it
We use reasonable physical, technical and administrative safeguards to protect personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access limited to people who need it and providers with strong security practices. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the authorities of a breach where the law requires it.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you, and get a copy of it;
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- withdraw your consent, and ask us to delete your information;
- in Quebec, receive your information in a structured, commonly used technological format, and ask that it no longer be disseminated;
- in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, also object to or restrict certain processing and receive your information in a portable format;
- in certain US states, also opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information or targeted advertising (switching off the Marketing category in Cookie settings, or sending a Global Privacy Control signal, does this).
To make a request, email us at info@boundarychamber.com. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on it, and we will respond within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia, the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec, or, in Europe or the UK, your local data protection authority.
11. Children
The site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13 (under 14 in Quebec). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
12. Links to other websites
The site links to local businesses, events and other websites that we do not control. Their privacy practices are their own, so please review their privacy policies when you visit them.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make significant changes, we will let you know on the site.
14. Contact us
